GREEN BUILDING
Green Building, often referred to as sustainable building, has been a staple of our everyday construction practices since the founding of KCI. We have divided our program into three areas:
1 | Methods and materials for demolition and removal of materials from a project site. |
---|---|
Every project has a customized recycling plan tailored for the specific needs of the work. Materials to be off-hauled are separated by category and recycled at the appropriate local facility. Reusable products like cabinets and doors are taken to local salvage yards. Course of construction byproducts (i.e. cardboard and packaging of new products purchased for the project) are recycled at local facilities. Unused wood products are donated to non-profits such as the Adventure Playground in the Berkeley Marina. |

2 | Methods and Materials of Construction |
Wherever possible, we encourage our clients to use products that are sustainably produced. We have been using sustainably grown forest products since 1998. We encourage the use of manufactured products fabricated from recycled materials and/or that are produced using low environmental impact methods. We encourage the use of materials that provide a healthier interior environment. We have incorporated new building products such as paint, carpet, & engineered wood products with low or no VOC content into our previous projects. We now use only formaldehyde-free insulation. |

3 | Design of Sustainable Mechanical Systems |
Although building systems for heating, cooling, electricity, natural gas, etc. usually fall under the purview of the project designers, we are always willing to work with the design professionals to help achieve sustainability goals. |
